This weeks lectures focused on the history and techniques used in photography, which included information on the workings of cameras, angles, aperture, lighting, shutter speed and subject focus. All of this was aimed at delivering higher quality photographs of various subjects.
The first task assigned to us was to affect aperture in photos taken around campus. Aperture affects the amount of light that enters the cameras sensor. Entering through the lens, the lens expands and contracts similar to an iris on the eye in order to control the amount of light allowed through. Darker spaces require more light while brighter spaces require less light.
Shutter speed on the other hand is used to capture motion in stillness, with faster speed appearing clearer than slower speeds which are more blurred.

In class today we studied various techniques applied to the creation of new digital media such as: writing formats, page layouts, writing styles and usability. The main thing that any website most be able to so is hold the attention of its viewers and to that end the ways in which the page is laid out is very important. The page should follow a pattern that draws the viewers eye from left to right, which must be pleasing to the view and encourage them to continue reading on. This is very important as if the content is not properly laid out this will most likely stop the the viewer from continuing and the information will not be read. The designer must also consider the device on which the information will be read, and  design according for large screens or smaller ones with mobile devices and pacs and laptops. The rules that should be followed when creating a page are the Laws of Gestalt which will aid in your design process. They read as such:

  1. Similarity
  2. Good continuation
  3. Proximity
  4. Symmetry
  5. Uniform connectedness
  6. Figure ground

The first weeks class in IS30320 focused on blogging, which is a tool that i have never used before this class. We are going to be using wordpress to create and mange our blogs throughout the course. im looking forward to learning about blogging.
